Introduction:Turmeric is one of the important commercial crops in Madras Province cultivated for the under -ground rhizomes.The cured rhizomes commonly known as turmeric is used for culinary purpose in Indian house-holds.It is also used for toilet.purpose by Hindu women in South India,more particularly in Andhra-Desa. It is exported to foreign countries to some extent for the manufacture of dyes.Turmeric is an exhausting crop and responds very well to manuring and irrigation.Under ideal soil conditions and intensive cultivation.it is a highly romunerative crop.It comes up well in rich loamy soils that are friable and have a good natural drainage Turmeric cultivation is therefore confined to certain favoured localities,where the cutivation of the crop,the processing of the rhizomes and marketing tend to get specialised.
