Abstract

Among the textile fibre crops of the world jute comes next to cotton and flax in commercial importance.The English word'Jute'probably derived from Sanskrit'jhat' or 'johat'meaning "to been entangled"seems to have been in use since the middle of the eighteenth century but its mention for the first time in customs list was about the year 1828.
