Abstract

Ethanolic extracts of healthy and mosaic virus infected papaya leaves were examined by ion exchange and paper chromatography methods for the presence of ninhydrin positive compounds and UV active compounds, Aspartic acid, asparagin. alanine, gamma amino-butryric acid, cysteic acid, glutamic acid, loucine, and valine were detected. The qualitative compositions of emino acids in both healthy and virus infeciad leaves were similar but relative concentrations for some nitrogenous compounde were lower in the disassed tissue.
