Abstract

A discrimant function study was undertaken at the B.A.ollege of Agriculture.Anand.(Gujarat State)to invet- igate whether'Pass'or failure of students in the first year B.Sc.(Agri.)examination viz.could be predicted in a priari manner utilising the students score of the previous examination viz.the Preparatory Science (Agri.) examination. The discrimant function with the variable Chemistry (X1)Mathematics(X2).Botany(X3)and General Agriculture (X4)gave the discrimant function.Z = 4.10 x 1 - x 2 + 11.26 X2--2.44 X4 indicating that Botany (X2)was the best predictor. The discrimant function was found to be useful technique in predicting the 'pass' or;failure' of the students in the succeeding examination using his achivements in the preceding examination in the function. This would help the student himself for guidance upon his future academic successes.
