This country has take very rapid strides in Co-operation. In this Presidency alone the number of Co-operative societies that function is large. But majority of then being only credit societies both the Government and the public have felt deep concern in the future advancement of the movement and it was therefore right that the local government appointed a committee to enquire into the existing situation and furnish them with their considered views so as to facilitate future progress. The personnel leaves nothing to be desired, constituting as it does of veterans in the cause. Mr. C. A. H. Townsend (Chairman) is a tried civilian of the Punjab. Mr. G. K. Devadhar is the pillar of the movement in Bombay. Mr. V. Ramdoss is the President of the local Pro-vincial Co-operative Union. Other members are also ardent co-operators.
